Adieu and Farewell

AJ Bear and I are back in Edmonton after a wonderful nine day trip to Iceland which is a magical place with glorious sights. My advice to you is to put it on your bucket list. Icelandair has a great deal whereby you can stop over in Iceland for up to seven days whilst travelling from North America to Europe. Even if you stop over for one day, I would consider it. Here are my recommendations:

1 day stop over : Blue Lagoon +/- one excursion (time permitting).

2 day stop over: Golden Circle +/- one excursion (time permitting ) and Blue Lagoon

3 day stop over: Glacier Lagoon tour; Golden Circle +/- one excursion (time permitting) and Blue Lagoon

4 day stop over: Myvatyn day trip; Glacier Lagoon tour; Golden Circle +/- one excursion (time permitting) and Blue Lagoon

5-7 day stop over: Stay in Reykjavik and do all of the above as well as some tours.

Don’t do the ring road unless you have at least 8 days. The drive is quite long and you will end up missing time needed to actually see the sights. Even with 9 days, it was a bit of a whirlwind and we had to be very efficient with our times. Additional days would have been great for doing more tours including visiting the ice caves, guided glacier hikes, snorkelling and whale watching in Husavik. I also wish we had made time to go on the Northern lights tour. We tried multiple times to see the lights and spent many a clear night waiting for them and even went out driving in the middle of the night to see if we could catch them. Alas ,it wasn’t in our stars.

If you do the ring road, definitely consider getting a camper van or, if you are more adventurous, go tenting. The campsites have good facilities and many are set in picturesque areas. This way you will save time and money with not having to check in and out of hotels/motels. We really enjoyed the service we received from Camp Easy Camper Vans #campeasyiceland. Shout out to our guide Holly!

It’s back to clinic work tomorrow. I have really enjoyed the year of travelling and AJ Bear and I have put in many miles including the long trips to South America and Uganda along with the multiple shorter trips in Canada. I am hopeful for another trip to Uganda in February 2020 in the event our next project is approved. (I don’t want to jinx it yet by giving details- stay tuned in the new year for more blogs if we are able to implement our proposal)

Thank you for reading the blog and making comments. Take time to enjoy this fabulous planet and travel to as many places as you possibly can and share your adventures. Good Journey to all of you. Be kind to yourselves and to each other. As Hazrat Ali said, “We are either brothers in religion or partners in humanity”. We are all made from a single entity- whatever your beliefs.

Be good. Do good. Feel Good.
