Breakfast consisted of instant oatmeal and nuts. We had fresh berries but chose to save them. Oh who am I kidding- we needed and wanted gingerbread cookies and milk instead! A girl has to spoil herself every now and then. We felt wonderful and headed out in a clockwise direction on the ring road to the western part of Iceland. Our first stop was the little village of Borgarnes which was very quaint and picturesque.
Thereafter we went to the Grabok crater. What a heavenly place. The colors of nature were amazing and words cannot do it justice. We took tons of pictures which still could not capture the beauty. Some of the topography felt like we were on another planet. Despite the rainy day, the magic of the place will always speak to me. It was “otherworldly” according to my roomie.
Our next stop was to Glanni waterfalls which was off the beaten path and thanks to my friend’s perseverance, we were able to find it. I’m going to run out of adjectives at this rate. Just look at the pictures and make plans to visit this magnificent land.
Our last stop of the day was to Hofsos. As we reached it, the clouds parted and the mountains were visible. The rock formations are incredible. The swimming pool is an infinity pool and feels like you are right in the ocean. Once again we were exhausted and were planning to sleep the night in the parking lot. Alas, a lovely camp warden knocked on our door and advised us that it was illegal to camp anywhere but the official campsites. Oops.
